Icelandic Travel Agency D-Travel And Our Story

Icelandic Travel Agency D-Travel

D-Travel is an Icelandic travel agency established in 2014, which was exactly the time of the biggest tourism boom in the country. The idea of setting up a company wasn’t a sudden impulse, but a long-term intention of the founder while living in Iceland and working in the tourism sector. Even after many years of living in this beautiful country, we still feel the same passion and love for every place here and our desire to share these feelings led us in setting up this beautiful business.

We began small, like almost every Icelandic travel agency does, providing only drivers and vehicles to other companies and their clients. After a while, we realised we could do these things on our own and so we finally began to offer our own tours and trips.

D-Travel is an Icelandic Travel Agency with Added Value

Nowadays our offer is wide, whether it is a one-day trip from Reykjavik or multiple-day tours all around Iceland. All of our trips are suitable for smaller or larger groups depending on the requirements of our clients. We can guarantee luxurious transport, experienced drivers, Professional guides, many extra activities (helicopter tours, glacier climbing,..) and unforgettable experience. Whether we do tours for our clients or clients of our partner travel agencies, we always do our best. A proof of that are dozens of excellent ratings on Tripadvisor, Facebook, Google, etc.

Guiding people around Iceland isn’t really our job, it is our passion. We love to tell sagas about the amazing places they visit, cultural traditions, trolls and many other things. Our uniqueness is that every single tour can be done in a different way, exactly according to the needs of a client, which means private VIP tours. With us, getting inside a volcano or diving in a beautiful crystal clear lagoon is a piece of cake.

Iceland is our home

D in our name means Dušan, which is a first name of the founder. He came to Iceland in 2008. the country has totally changed his life and so he decided to move here with his family for good.

At first, he was a driver for various travel agencies and so during a couple of years, he got familiar with basically every place in Iceland. He travelled around the whole Island hundreds of times, but when you see him, you know he still loves it.  The only thing that can surprise him is a sheep that runs in front of his car 🙂

All the other employees have similar stories. They came to Iceland because of work, travel or experience only for a limited time, but after falling in love with the country, it became their home for many years now.

We are always looking forward to every new visitor coming here, so we can show him everything we can and share all the experience and wonderful stories that we have. And who knows, maybe you’ll be the next one just coming here on vacation but eventually finding a new home 😉

If you have any other questions about us or the services we offer, feel free to ask us anything.

Bless, bless. Eigið góðan dag.

10 Interesting Facts About Iceland

10 interesting facts about iceland

Iceland. A country known mostly because of its incredibly beautiful and unique nature. Huge lava fields, thousands of waterfalls, active volcanoes and majestic glaciers. However, thinking, that nature is the only amazing thing about this country is definitely not true. Let’s, therefore, look at 10 interesting facts about Iceland, that you probably didn’t know about.

  1. If parents want to give their child a name, that hasn’t been used before, it has to be approved by the Icelandic Naming Committee. If the name is too eccentric, the child might not get it. That’s why, when you take a look at some Icelandic dating site, (of course by pure accident) it’s really possible you’ll see still the same names repeating over and over again. So no Esmeraldas or Diors here. A name also can’t consist of letters C and Z, because the Icelandic alphabet doesn’t use those.
  2. The national sport is handball, however, nowadays football is definitely on the top of the popularity rank.
  3. It’s forbidden to keep snakes, lizards or turtles as a pet here. It’s mainly because the import of animals itself is really restricted and these animals are likely to bring various diseases to the island.
  4. Since 2004, strip clubs have been completely banned in Iceland ( I’m so sorry guys). This country is known for its equal approach regarding both sex, so it’s absolutely unthinkable of women to do such a job.
  5. Another thing that has been banned for a long period of time was beer, seriously. Fortunately for us, this lasted only till 1989, however, it’s still possible to buy it only in specialised liquor stores, not in supermarkets.Depth of Field Photo of Two Pilsner Glasses
  6. Icelandic police officers don’t carry any gun. The criminality rate is the lowest in the world, despite every third citizen owns a gun. So how come, that there aren’t that many shootings like for example in the US? The answer is simple. Getting a gun is not like buying a candy, you have to pass lots of examinations which usually take around 3 years.
  7. Iceland was the first country in the world having a female president, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, which was elected in 1980.
  8. Icelanders keep their children to sleep outside, no matter how bad the weather is. They believe its healthier for them and they are sort of getting ready for what they may expect during their whole life 😀
  9. A comedian Jón Gnarr was elected mayor of Reykjavík because, in his campaign, he promised, that he’s not going to fulfil any of his promises. You can read more about this funny mayor in his book Gnarr! How I Became the Mayor of a Large City in Iceland and Changed the World.
  10. There are many weird dishes you may find in Iceland, but one of the most bizarre is definitely raw puffin hear, that is considered a delicacy here.

D-Travel Iceland – “Iceland is our home.”

The owner and simultaneously our driver Dušan came to Iceland in 2008. The east part of Slovakia wasn´t challenging for him anymore so he decided to travel to this island for a work. Iceland totally changed his life.

In the following years almost the whole Dušan´s family moved to Iceland, and right know they are happily living in Reykjavik. Dušan used to work as a bus driver for couple travel touristic agencies in Iceland. We can say that there aren´t so many places which Dušan hasn´t visited yet. He has travel around the island countless times and he still remains amazed by the country view. The only thing that can always surprise him on the road is a sheep accidentally passing the road.

Terez is helping mainly with organisation, marketing and guiding on the trips. She fell in love with Iceland two years ago when her mother accidentaly took her there for a vacation. It was love on the first sight. Since then she was trying to find a way how to come back to the island. Thanks to her university internship she finally made it to Iceland and spent there 5 months, during which she founded a travel blog for all lovers of the Scandinavian countries and books. After she came home from her internship she tried to find other ways how to get there, again, when Dušan gave her an irresistible offer. She became a professional tour guide and now plays an inseperable part of the company. She considers Iceland to be her home.

We are very delighted to meet all of our customers during our day and excursion tours. We are very pleased to answer all your questions and we would be even more happy to meet you in Iceland.

Bless, bless. Eigið góðan dag.

Goodbye and have a great day,

Dušan a Terez
